Cowlitz occurs as class action of Native American peoples from what is today american Washington state in the United States. A Cowlitz tribe actually consists of ii distinct subtribes: A Upper Cowlitz, or even Taidnapam, & a Lower Cowlitz.
Linguistically, the Cowlitz tribe belongs to the Salish personal of languages among Northwest Coast autochthonous peoples. Two subtribes of the Cowlitz originally spoke the Salish language, but late a Upper Cowlitz would speak a Sahaptan language from east of the Cascade Mountains.
A Cowlitz were federally acknowledged within February 14th, 2000 & their acknowledgement was reaffirmed in 2002. It is currently recognized officially per United States federal government, and come in the run of establishing federally recognized tribal lands (like in the reservation).
